School Assemblies & Community Performances
Susan Hamlin and Brian Chevalier's arts-in-education programs have been inspiring school and community audiences since the mid-1990s.
Their highly popular "Reading Rocks" and "Character Rocks" assembly shows bring the postive messages of Character Education and Literacy to schools across NY, NJ and New England.
High energy, inclusive, interactive and totally engaging, Brian and Susan's school assembly programs are culturally diverse, featuring original songs written to honor musical traditions from across America. Brian and Susan's shows have lots of student participation with volunteers for the Maraca Orchestra, ASL (American Sign Language) and more.

"Reading Rocks" Celebrate the Adventure of Literacy
with Susan Hamlin & Brian Chevalier
"Reading Rocks" is a rah-rah reading show that helps instill a lifelong love of reading in children.
Authored by:
Susan Hamlin & Brian Chevalier
Grades: Pre-K thru 6
Length: 45 minutes
Audience: Up to 250
"Reading ROCKS" is perfect for your PARP (Parents as Reading Partners) Read Across America, Books and Beyond, your reading month theme or summer reading program kickoff.
Highly participatory: We bring up student volunteers for almost every song.
Embedded in "Reading ROCKS" are solid themes such as: The joy of reading, asking for help, library resources, books as windows to the world, animals and friends in books, listening for content, positive community values and more.
Songs about Clifford the Big Red Dog, Harry Potter, Amelia Bedelia and, for the older students, the classic "Late Night Reading Blues" (complete with volunteers in dark sunglasses playing "air guitar") encourges lots of participation from start to finish. We do different, age-appropriate shows for older and younger grades.

"Reading Rocks and so do the performers. These two musicians are not only talented, but fun and knowledgeable about children's likes and needs. This performance would be an asset to any elementary reading program." -- Elyse Fegelman, Kindergarten Teacher, Forest Park Elem School, S Colonie NY
